“The target is on the move.”

Flicking his scratched metal lighter closed with adept fingers, Jamison straightens from his slouched position against the brick wall to peer towards the sleek cocktail bar across the street brimming with lights and patrons. He’s half-hidden in a small alleyway between the streamlined, glossy restaurants and contemporary shimmery office buildings.

It’s on the cusp of 11 p.m. in Columbia but the streets haven’t thinned down in the least. Couples in cashmere and pin skirts wander, laughing amongst themselves, or a few scruffy men shuffling behind pretty women with dopey grins and hungry eyes.

The night air palliated the humidity of the day to something tolerable, but heat still prickles uncomfortably at Jamison’s skin. The only place of true interest to Jamison, however, is the cocktail bar called the Dram & Drought. The ear-piece lodged in Jamison’s right ear crackles.

“What is the target’s ETA?” Stray asks in her typical monotone.

Unconsciously, Jamison cuts his gaze towards the outdoor patio of the Dram & Drought that is covered by a leafy terrace adorned with lovely flowers and lush foliage. It’s an open patio, revealing the circle wood tables spla ered around with uniformed servers weaving between them to deliver drinks.
